Anton J. Uhlen Founder and CEO of Bridging the Gap

Anton J. Uhlen M.B.S. is the Founder and CEO of Bridging the Gap. He graduated from Lewis University in 2015 with a Bacholer of Science in Biochemistry, from Midwestern University in 2018 with a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences, and has been accepted to start medical school for the Class of 2024.  After having very poor guidance from his advisors and counselors throughout his academic career, Anton feels as though he could help bridge the gap between a student’s coursework and a professional career in ways that the educational system does not do for its students.  His purpose in starting Bridging the Gap was to be a tutor and mentor for students struggling in their academic coursework (specifically within math and science courses) and subsequently get them focused and inspired towards pursuing their professional goals. He is qualified in teaching these subjects after having taken and excelled at this coursework as an undergraduate and graduate student, and additionally by having to perfect his knowledge of these subjects for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). Through his many years of schooling and unique life experiences, Anton has also developed professional contact information to provide students with a network of scientific and medically relevant professionals who has agreed to help support and guide students along their academic paths into professional careers.

Letter from the CEO

Hello and Welcome!

My purpose in starting Bridging The Gap was to tutor students to excel in their math and science coursework, provide mentorship and structure to academic curriculums for students coming from challenging or unguided backgrounds, and also share my story to prospective students looking to succeed in life.

I come from very humble beginnings. My family consists largely of immigrants and blue-collar laborers. Growing up, I had a very happy childhood, played a variety of sports, and also was part of a very tightly knit Roman Catholic family. After, becoming the first in my family to graduate from college, pursue a professional career, and go into healthcare, I realized I had faced many ups and downs throughout the process of picking a career as a student. I despise how academic institutions place students on certain curricular paths for which they are strictly held to throughout their years of education. This thereby limits their accumulation of knowledge and subsequently inhibits their ability to succeed in life. During that time, I also realized that I had very poor mentors, advisors, and counselors to help guide me into a professional career. With that being said, my goal in starting Bridging The Gap is to help students pursue their own goals, within the strict confines of our academic institutions, so that they don’t go down this same unguided path that I did.

Throughout my academic studies, I spent countless hours pursuing career paths such as pharmacy, clinical psychology, physical therapy, scientific research (industry and academic), engineering, and physician assistant before dedicating myself to the field of medicine, to become a medical doctor. Having gone through a process of constant trial and error to figure out my career path, has taught me how to properly question oneself and guide one’s thoughts towards the pursuits of a professional goal. I believe that I have optimized such a process and want to share this knowledge and wisdom with students in order to allow them to succeed too.

Here at Bridging the Gap, I also offer tutoring services for courses like biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, calculus, psychology and sociology. I am qualified in tutoring these courses due to the following accomplishments:

  1. I completed and excelled at all of these courses as an undergraduate student. I graduated from Lewis University in 2015, with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.
  2. I then had to revisited, complete, and excel at these courses again, as a graduate student. I graduated from Midwestern University in 2018, with a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences.
  3. I had to perfect this coursework for my Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) where I scored in the 75th Percentile of the General Chemistry/Organic Chemistry/Physics Section, 92nd Percentile in the Biology/Biochemistry Section, and 96th Percentile in Psychology/Sociology Section of the exam. (To allow you to make a valid evaluation, the MCAT is a 7 hour and 30 minute exam, involving seven subjects as listed above, with the national average for each sections being the 50th Percentile).
  4. I have tutored undergraduate students in general biology and general chemistry courses, and have learned how to break down a very in-depth concept into small pieces for students to digest and comprehend.

At this point, my wish is that all of my students receive enough knowledge from me in regards to their selected area of study, that they persistently and consistently pursue their professional and academic dreams without wavering. After being a college athlete, working various jobs as a student, conducting scientific research, managing a social life, excelling at academic coursework, and dealing with numerous setbacks, I feel as though I have learned how to balance the rigors of excelling through an academic curriculum and maintaining a happy life. Now, I want to make sure that I pass along this knowledge and wisdom to all of my students, and ensure that they live the lives of their choosing. I believe that you owe it to yourself to have these conversations with me, and for that reason, I look forward to being able to work with you in the future!

Thank you!

“Having Anton as a tutor was very affordable and worth every penny! He was able to breakdown a complex biology class to make it easily understandable. He takes the time to draw out diagrams, and works with your learning style to help you understand the material. Thanks to his tutoring I was able to grasp the material and go into every test with confidence and end up with an A in the class.”

Having Anton as a tutor was a very helpful and a solid learning experience. He was very patient and determined for me, to ensure I learn the material. Anyone could tell that he was very passionate about the subject and truly wanted to help me get a thorough grasp of the material. One great character trait that Anton has is that he truly cares about you as a student and he takes the time to figure you out – both personally and professionally. He doesn’t mind if it takes extra time and effort. Anton is very knowledgeable about the topics and subjects that he is teaching because he has been through it all himself. He has spent countless hours conquering the courses and building a level of knowledge that allows him to be able to communicate it effectively. He has a unmatched passion for these subjects from my perspective.
